From Roadside Cover To Mobile Phone Batteries: Staying Safe Following A Car Or Motorbike Breakdown

As the UK is in the midst of a particularly chilly spell of weather with cold fronts originating in Siberia leaving many regions with sub-zero temperatures, road users have been advised to prepare for dangerous driving conditions. Colder temperatures also put vehicles under increased strain, with breakdown recovery firms reporting every year that they receive the highest number of call-outs during winter months. No-one expects to suffer a mechanical failure or a flat tyre while out in their car or riding their motorcycle, but it is always wise to be prepared for the worst.
If you regularly drive or ride long distances, you really should have some form of car or Motorbike breakdown cover in case you suffer some kind of fault when you are miles from home or your destination. Even the most basic policy will entitle you to roadside assistance and a tow to a local garage if the issue cannot be resolved in timely fashion by the engineer called out to assist you. Pay a little more and the recovery vehicle will transport you and your car or motorcycle back to your home address or onwards to your destination. Those not covered in case of breakdown may find they have to pay hundreds of pounds to have their vehicle recovered, negating any saving made by not taking out a policy in the first place.
Even if you do have breakdown cover, waiting for assistance is still an issue during a cold winter. If you breakdown on the side of a motorway, exit your vehicle and wait on the embankment. Keep blankets and spare warm clothing in your car and if the weather forecast predicts especially low temperatures, bring a thermos flask of coffee, tea or hot chocolate with you. A stash of chocolate bars and crisps can prove useful if you have a long, cold wait ahead of you and always make sure your mobile phone battery is charged and will last for the entirety of your journey.
Before embarking on a journey, check the water, oil and screenwash levels of your vehicle and make sure that your tyres are sufficiently inflated. Keep an eye on your fuel level and stop to top it up if the dial is getting low. Remember; it is against the law to knowingly set off on the motorway if you know you do not have enough fuel to complete your journey. Work out where the service stations are located on your journey and if you must leave it till the last minute, stop as soon as your warning light comes on, if not before.
If you take every precaution you can before you set off, a breakdown should be nothing more than an inconvenience. Wrap up warm and good luck!

Circulating Business Aviation Dollars

Commentary: If I were to write a letter to President Obama reference the decimation his policies have had on business aviation and the aviation vendor industry it would be stated as below.
Dear President Obama:
While attending college I became fascinated with flying. My money earned while working in factory jobs paid for flight training and college to become a business aviation pilot. In a sense I assisted the aviation community by circulating dollars so I may prosper and the industry may grow.
Eventually I married, had three children and raised my family successfully all due to having a life time career in aviation as a business aviation pilot.
Within aviation one must flight train, spend time in hotels while on business, purchase fuel for aircraft and other expenditures that add to the survival of the aviation vendor support industry. During my aviation career, to flight train and remain current, I spent over three hundred (300) nights in the same hotel at one training facility location throughout my career. This does not include the other one hundred fifty (150) nights each year I was away from family for employer work related business.
Govt aviation contracts when sent to Mexico, Brazil, China and other countries diminish my forty years of surviving the ups and downs of my aviation career. You are taking away food and purchase power from a skilled work force. You are circulating our aviation dollars to other countries. You are driving a stake into the hearts and souls of those who are proud Americans. Those who have sacrificed time away from family, strive to reach professional excellence and came out on the other end of life feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. Your verbal and business aviation policy attacks have negated the successes business aviation has worked hard to achieve.
Aircraft manufacturers use vendors to build aircraft for final assembly. This means jobs and families survive and prosper at these vendor locations.
With your admonishment of business aviation, taxation policies, demagoguery of flying business jets, your non support of attending Las Vegas conventions and along with business aviation expenditures you dislike is not supporting our economy. Now you ask my industry to pay for government budget miss management, government over spending, government FAA regulatory intrusion and a special $100 flight tax is unacceptable to everyday workers both skilled and unskilled.
Our standard of living is reduced at each anti aviation statement made and our buying power is being reduced. Mr. President those of us in business aviation are hurting and our families are hurting.
The 8.5% unemployment rate your administration states is fictitious and your administration knows this. You have not counted those who's benefits have expired, self-employed persons not working, contract workers, freelance pilots, independent business owners who's customers have vanished.
The aviation industry was founded in America. It is part of Americas fiber. The industry is not asking for GM bailouts, pension saving government gimmicks. The administration now admits taxpayers will lose $14 billion in the auto bailout. The aviation industry does not require a government bailout. Simply put, the aviation industry is asking you to support the spirit and dreams of men and woman that made this industry great through hard and smart work. We desire our jobs to return.

Non-Conspicuous Business Travel, the New Norm

The other day, I was at Starbucks I was talking to a gentleman who was formerly from Ireland. He is now a US citizen, and he runs a business in the transportation industry. Specifically he shuttles executives, and wealthy individuals to and from the airport, and around town in town cars and Limousines while they are on vacation, or while they are snow-birding in our desert resort community. We got to talking about how more and more wealthy folks and corporate executives are traveling incognito without the flashy Limousines. There's a reason for this, and I'd like to talk about it for a moment if I might.
If you "travel large" and flash the cash so to speak, carrying expensive designer bags jump in and out of expensive cars, well, in some countries you are liable to get kidnapped if you are too conspicuous or if you appear be wealthy. If you look like you are a corporate executive, there's a good chance that your company has bought travel insurance to pay off the kidnappers, and therefore, that's easy money, and you will soon become a target.
Also, we seem to have a challenge with the 99 percentile group which believes that the wealthy are somehow evil, should pay more taxes, and there are enough people who are fully engaged in class warfare to make it actually dangerous in the United States in some areas. Much of the masses have been emboldened by the political rhetoric on TV and in the mass media that's okay to attack wealthy folks, a cost them at their home, or call them out as greedy bastards. No, of course that's not okay, but for some reason the political rhetoric is at an all-time high, probably due to the election season, and since we have a populist style president currently.
My acquaintance was making a point that many of the folks that called him to pick them up at the airport, did not want a limousine, even if the price was the same, and actually requested "NOT" to be picked up in a limo. They'd rather have a Lincoln town car, or a nondescript car of that nature, one which was not black or looked expensive to come pick them up. This way they would blend in, and no one would notice that they are of wealth. He said this is becoming more and more common. Okay so, this is your word of warning to be careful in your business travels.

Lorry Road User Charging in the U.K.

There is a well known disparity amongst those involved in haulage work in the United Kingdom. It's also a reason that the U.K. is popular amongst foreign drivers. The disparity is this: while UK registered Heavy Goods vehicles have to pay vignette charges or tolls in just about every European country they visit, foreign drivers don't pay a penny to drive on British roads, thanks to the costs being covered by the tax levied directly upon U.K. drivers. This has been the root of some frustration for several years, especially as more and more countries in the European Union have introduced charges. This makes Britain a discount driving destination while costing the U.K. - both in terms of costs to business engaged in haulage work and in term of missed out taxation.
The Government's Plans
Currently in the consultation stage, the British government is looking into ways of addressing the imbalance. Amongst industry bodies, the Freight Transport Association has long been vocal in its support for such a scheme. Although, this has always been closely linked with the proviso that the rates of taxation already levied on U.K. hauliers isn't raised significantly, further increasing the pressures upon those in haulage work.
The current plans include the following:
  1. A road user charge would be introduced that would apply to both foreign and U.K. registered HGVs that weigh 12 tonnes and over;
  2. This charge would be applicable to HGVs being driven on any road in the United Kingdom (charges would be subject to a sliding scale based on the weight of the vehicle, type and number of axles);
  3. The charge levied on road users would vary from around £85 a year for smaller HGVs, up to over £1,000 for the largest vehicles on the road;
  4. U.K. owners would pay the user charge at the same time and as part of the same transaction as road-tax;
  5. Operators of foreign registered vehicles would be able to choose how they pay: daily, weekly, monthly or annually. The proposed daily rate is somewhere around £10 per day.
What it Means for British Hauliers
Due to E.U. rules, the scheme is unable to discriminate between British drivers and those from elsewhere in the European Union. However, to mitigate for this, the British government have said that drivers will be compensated for the extra costs - this is necessary in order to reduce to burden upon those employed in haulage work in the United Kingdom. The maximum extra cost is reported to be around £79, with methods of reducing this open to operators.

Crown Molding-Facts That Help You Choose Wisely

If you have decided to choose Crown Molding as a part of your home remodeling exercise, there is some structured hard work that lies in store. Although external help can be sought from all quarters in the form of retailers as well as consultants, a fair bit of information gathering would be mandatory on your part in order to accomplish the best choices. For example, installing crown molding in your premises would involve adherence to several prerequisites. Therefore, coming to terms with them would be essential to insure the right selection of products. Thankfully, the presence of online retailers has contributed significantly in simplifying the purchase process. All you now need is a list of facts that can be used for evaluating the options at hand and selecting appropriate variants.
Crown Molding-Information you can Use
First up, you would need to consider the aspects that are mandatory in making a valid choice. For instance, when you select, the following criteria are mandatory.
*First, you need to ascertain the style associated with the crown molding activity. Basically, you need to have a specific scheme in mind which you plan to accomplish through the modeling activity. A comprehensive planning is must for ensuring appropriate choice.
*Second, you need to assess how many levels you plan to consider when installing the modeling exercise.
*Third, the measured width of the finished trim pieces of molding would also have to be considered. Accurate measurements would be warranted to insure ordering the right choice.
*Additionally, you also need to consider the dimensions of the part pieces as well as connectors before ordering your complete installation process.
Elaborating on the Requirements for Crown Molding
Essentially, crown molding is a process that involves a layered process comprising several different styles as well as widths that are mixed and matched in order to come up with stylish finish.
*The broader pieces would make up for the foundation for building the entire structure on. These would use consecutive pieces in order to build up for the actual molding exercise. Lengthier pieces would involve usage of couplings or fittings or both. These could also be used for breaking up the actual line of sequence and making a sense of unique creativity.
*Part pieces are essentially used for joining the actual pieces within the edges. These would be ones that are intricately carved or just plain in design and form. Often, part pieces can be used for hiding imperfections in the design if any.
*When it comes to crown moldings, overhead moldings are the ones in which the best of styles are to be implemented. Therefore, decorative corbels as well as ceiling medallions are used for additional ornamentation. This is because bottom levels are generally covered, therefore design elements aren't that essential.
When you choose crown molding as an option, make sure you have ample time at hand for ensuring correct selection. It is important to come to terms with the basic facts applicable for the selection process and then attempt selection.

Stage II Jets To Be Phased Out

Legislation signed into law in 2012 not only authorized funding for operation of the Federal Aviation Administration but also enacted a provision to phase out older Stage II jets. The phase out of these aircraft will benefit Las Vegas local residence at satellite airports surrounding McCarran airport.
Stage II Jet is a generic name for aircraft that have older jet engines at the time were state of the art in design. They had less efficient engines with raw power that provided enough thrust to carry airline and business jets into the air during takeoff.
The Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 prohibits, ending December 31, 2015, the use of jets that were exempted from the Airport Noise and Capacity Act (ANCA) of 1990. They are jets that weigh 75,000 pounds or less and do not comply with quieter Stage 3 noise levels. The exemption, if passed then, would have limited aircraft noise to 65 dB.
Congress and the FAA, when considering The Airport Noise and Capacity Act (ANCA) of 1990, weighed the right of communities to peace and quiet and the right of commerce to engage in free market enterprise, against the cost that must be paid to protect that right or to accord the other the courtesy to that right.
The National Business Aircraft Association (NBAA) is an advocate of aircraft having the right to fly into and out of public airports utilizing safe and proven operating techniques. The objectives of the NBAA program, since 1967, have withstood the test of time and have been effective in reducing noise exposure for citizens on the ground. Congress determined that thirteen percent (13%) of U.S. citizens are affected by airport noise.
A benefit of owning a Stage 2 aircraft is the initial cost to purchase. This type of aircraft maybe purchased for as little as $300,000 to $2,000,000. Owners, when considering a purchase of stage II aircraft, weigh reduced cost of investment against cost of operation. Many times it is best to purchase an older aircraft.
Government regulations tend to discourage the use of older aircraft. The FAA's aging aircraft regulation is one example of directing business commerce and satisfying the public concern of noise. Not that these aircraft are unsafe. Older aircraft must comply with time honored FAA aircraft inspections. Decline in use of these aircraft have been driven by EU countries, the FAA and implementation of noise regulations.
A Coalition of airport managers around the country has championed an effort to eliminate the exemption since 2004. Noise sensitive airports known to pilots are; Santa Monica, Teterboro, Carlsbad, John Wayne just to name a few noise sensitive airports. Bob Bogan, deputy executive director at Morristown Municipal Airport, a founding member of Sound Initiative has spearheaded the push to eliminate stage II aircraft: A Coalition for Quieter Skies. Morristown New Jersey is known as a business jet airport in the New York metropolitan region.
The new law gives operators of what FAA registration records indicate are more than 850 Stage 2 aircraft until the end of 2015 to modify their aircraft to meet new standards or discontinue their use in U.S. airspace over the contiguous 48 states.
Many Stage II aircraft have been modified to comply with local noise concerns and have attempted to meet Stage III compliance. Sadly most efforts have come up short which is why the 2015 law has been passed.
Pilots at local Las Vegas airports desire to be good neighbors when flying business aircraft. Pilots understand residence desire to have quite neighbors and the local airport is part of the quite flying neighbor policy pilots have adopted. Pilots are trained to remain safe at all times and monitor local ordinance restrictions when flying near airports.
In order to satisfy noise restrictions pilots are able to implement a modified take off and approach aircraft configuration to comply with noise restrictions. During takeoff, with restrictions, aircraft pilots may select a reduce power and flap configuration to minimize takeoff decibel noise. When landing, the aircraft landing flap configuration may be delayed and the aircraft landing weight may be reduced in order to minimize decibel levels. This procedure is recommended but safety and aircraft performance are the utmost concern.

Ceramic Hybrid Bearings: The Best of Both Worlds

Ceramic is one of the world's oldest materials known for its strength and durability, but you might not know that, considering the phrase is so often associated with things that are fragile, like pottery and ceramic Christmas ornaments.
Ceramic is a non-metallic solid that is created with heating and cooling, and it was used thousands of years ago to manufacture everything from pottery to weapons. Today, ceramics are still used in a number of ways due to the material's inherent strength and resistance to heat and harsh operating conditions. Little do many know, but ceramic is actually used in a wide variety of industrial applications when businesses need a solid and more resilient alternative to metals that might not stand up to certain hazardous environments. When combined with today's technology and manufacturing methods, ceramics have risen to the challenge to continually make more and more effective products possible for industries everywhere. One of these products is the ceramic hybrid bearing.
While bearings and ball bearings are used in all kinds of machines and products around the world, ceramic bearings are often used in industrial applications where high RPM's, high temperatures, and high speeds are at a level that steel simply can't handle. Additionally, ceramics are harder, lighter, and have a smaller coefficient of friction than steel.
What does that mean? Ceramic bearings can move faster, run cooler, and sustain less damage than a bearing made of steel. In many applications, dirt, dust, and debris will come into contact with the bearings. With the inherent resilience and hardness of ceramics, debris will have less of an impact on performance - making machines more reliable. This helps ensure that you get everything you need from manufacturers (when you need it) by cutting down on equipment failure.
While ceramics are better in many ways when compared to steel the material does tend to be more expensive. For many, this extra expense is offset by the durability and enhanced efficiency of ceramics. However, the equation is complicated even more when we introduce the equally effective cousin to ceramic bearings -- hybrid bearings.
Ceramic hybrid ball bearings use ceramic balls combined with steel inner and outer rings. They use ceramic balls because they weigh up to 40% less than the steel balls, reduce skidding, and can operate faster than conventional steel bearings. At the same time, the lighter ceramic balls enable the bearing to use less energy while spinning faster than standard steel balls. Ultimately, the hybrid bearing balances greater performance and efficiency overall with a price point that some might find more desirable.

Auto Keyless Entry Ensures Safety and Security for Your Vehicle

Owing to the advancement in science and technology the security concerns of vehicle owners has been reduced to quite an extent. The invention of the smart and reliable keyless entry device has provided a comfortable driving experience to the car owners.
Now days a vehicle is equipped with satellite radio, GPS system, computer diagnostic system and many other features. As another service an ultra modern device known as the keyless entry has also been introduced in the automobile sector. This smart device performs the work with the help of radio waves, which are transmitted by the fob and simultaneously received by the system that is installed in your car. This innovative user friendly device is a combination of security with comfort that performs various functions in the car.
The keyless entry device has two components that include the receiver, which is installed in the car and the remote key, which is attached with the car key. The remote key is engineered using a small integrated circuit chip, which is installed and programmed with a unique code. The software which is programmed inside the receiver should match with that of the remote key. If only the code matches then only will the asked action be completed. For example, the very moment when the user presses any function button on the remote, the chip inside the remote immediately sends out the message through radio waves frequency. The receiver or the smart device installed behind the steering wheel of your vehicle will at once receive the sent message through waves to identify the code. If the code is verified and identified then only the device will perform the asked function. But if the code doesn't match then the lock will not respond and will remain idle.
With the keyless entry you can control your vehicle from a distance of around 50 to 80 meters and even from inside a building. This kind of remote controlled system is a very efficient device that protects your valuable assets from thefts and robberies. This smart gadget can function the locking as well as unlocking of the car door and arming and disarming the car alarm very easily. The code that is programmed in this keyless entry device is very hard to be hacked. If any intruder tries to get inside your car then immediately a unique sound starts honking, which is the alarm programmed in the car. Simultaneously, the lights of the car will start blinking. The same moment the owner of the car will get a signal in the remote indicating an unauthorized entry in the vehicle.

Benefits of a Keyless Remote for Your Car

Your car would be as precious to you as your other long-term investments. Necessary safety measures should be taken to keep it safe from being stolen. Keyless remotes are one of the latest devices used to ensure the safety of vehicles. Some of the features of keyless remotes are discussed in the article.
Today automobile manufacturers compete in bringing vehicles with the latest technology devices in it. Advanced features like satellite radio, GPS system, computer diagnostic system and many other devices are being used to make driving a better experience. A keyless remote is such an invention which has helped in keeping your car safe. This remote is also called a "smart key" or an "intelligent key".
A keyless remote is designed to allow or deny access to a vehicle. It functions like normal keys without any physical contact. You can lock/unlock the door of your car by just pressing a button. One of the benefits of this remote is that it works from quite a distance. Some features of this remote system, which makes it different from normal car keys, are discussed below.
Functions: This remote system depends on two components - a remote key and a receiver installed in the vehicle. The remote key has an inbuilt chip in it with a unique code that matches with the code installed in the receiver of the vehicle. When a button on the remote is pressed to perform a function, the chip inside the remote sends radio waves to the device in the car at a specific frequency. If this code matches with the code of the device in the car, this device allows the function to be performed. In case of any mismatch in these codes, the vehicle would not respond.
Convenience: A keyless remote makes it easier for a person to use the car. For instance, if you come to the car with both your hands loaded with bags after shopping, you can easily open the car's trunk with the press of a button which makes it much easier to put the bags in the car. The same task would've taken double the time if there was no keyless remote for the car.
Safety: A keyless remote keeps the car safe from theft. The car's engine cannot be started with a different remote and the code inside the remote cannot be copied as well. This completely eliminates every possible chance of the car being stolen. The only risk is when you lose the remote and the thief gets the same remote. In most of today's modern cars, alarm systems are installed in cars which start buzzing if the car is tried to open in a wrongful manner.
Benefits: A keyless remote enables you to set the car's temperature even before entering it. This feature is useful during extreme climatic conditions. It is also easy to locate a car which is parked in a fully packed parking lot. When a button on the remote is clicked, the car flashes its headlights and produces a distinct beep which makes it easier to find the car.
All modern cars come with keyless entry systems which ensure the safety of the cars as well as the convenience of the driver. Using a keyless remote for a car has also become something related to style. Keyless entry systems are available in the market at affordable prices which can be installed by a professional locksmith.
